Pro Se

(PRO SE) - Black's Law Dictionary (Fifth Edition) defines the term "Pro Se" as "For himself; in his own behalf; in person. Appearing for oneself, as in the case of one who does not retain a lawyer and appears for himself in court."

We at Fathers' Rights of Nebraska do not recommend "Pro Se" representation in the divorce process or other family matters if there is any way you can avoid it. Divorce and family law matters are very emotional, and it is easy to get caught up in these emotions. You may reduce your attorney costs, but you will most likely lose ground financially in other areas. In the event that your divorce involves a child custody situation, we suggest that you do what ever is necessary to obtain a reputable attorney and not place your future relationship with your child/children in jeopardy with "Pro Se" representation. If you desire the best results, you will undoubtedly regret this approach. There are no juries to feel sorry for you, only a judge that will grow tired of your unfamiliarity with the process and an opposing attorney that will pounce on you as though he a rabid dog.

If you have an opinion regarding "Pro Se" representation, we would like to hear about it. We are always looking for helpful information that we can share with fellow members. Please click the button below to provide us with your opinion.
